Replacing Lost Missouri License or ID Card

3 min read

Losing your Missouri driver’s license or state-issued ID card can disrupt your daily routine and create complications, especially when identification is required. Missouri residents must take immediate steps to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged card through the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR).

How to Replace a Lost or Stolen License or ID

You can request a replacement in person at any Missouri license office. Currently, replacements cannot be completed online or by mail unless you're temporarily out of state.

Required Documents

To replace your license or ID, you must present:

  • One primary document verifying your name and date of birth (e.g., U.S. birth certificate or passport)
  • Proof of Social Security number (e.g., Social Security card or W-2)
  • Proof of Missouri residency (e.g., utility bill or rental agreement)

If your name has changed since your last card was issued, you'll also need official documentation such as a marriage certificate or court order.

Fees for Replacing Your Card

The replacement fee depends on the type of license or ID:

  • Non-commercial driver license: $15.00
  • Non-driver state ID card: $11.00
  • Commercial driver license (CDL): $26.00

For a full breakdown, refer to the Missouri license fees.

Out-of-State Replacements

If you're temporarily living outside Missouri and lose your license, you may request a temporary 60-day permit by mail. This requires:

  • A completed Form 4319 (Request for Out of State License Renewal or Replacement)
  • Payment by check or money order
  • A copy of acceptable ID

More details are available from the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Reporting a Stolen License

Although not required, it's strongly recommended that you file a police report if your license was stolen. Doing so can protect you from identity theft. Bring a copy of the police report when applying for a replacement.

Additional Tips

Missouri law requires drivers and ID holders to carry valid identification. Promptly replacing a lost or damaged card ensures you remain compliant and prepared for identification checks.
