Forms Needed for Missouri Address Change
If you've recently moved within Missouri, it's important to update your address with the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) to stay compliant with state laws. Updating your address ensures you receive important correspondence about your driver's license, vehicle registration, and any applicable taxes or voter information.
Required Forms for Address Changes
The primary form used for address changes in Missouri is the Address Change Request Form (Form 4160). This form can be submitted for both driver’s license and vehicle registration updates.
1. Driver’s License Address Change
To change the address on your Missouri driver’s license, you can:
- Submit Form 4160 by mail or in person
- Update online through the Missouri DOR website
This change does not automatically generate a new license with your updated address. If you want a new physical card, you must apply for a duplicate license and pay the applicable fee.
For steps on updating your license information, see Updating Your Name or Address on Missouri License.
2. Vehicle Registration Address Change
To update your vehicle registration address, you must also submit Form 4160. This update ensures you receive renewal notices and avoids any issues with your vehicle records. Like with licenses, this does not trigger a new registration card or decals unless specifically requested.
You can also find relevant information under Missouri Car Title and Registration Steps.
3. Voter Registration Address Change
Changing your address with the DOR does not automatically update your voter registration. You must submit a separate update to your local election authority or use the Missouri Secretary of State’s online voter portal at sos.mo.gov.
Online vs. In-Person Submission
-
Online: Use the DOR portal to update your driver license or ID record. This is the fastest method.
-
Mail: Download and complete Form 4160, then mail it to:
Driver License Bureau P.O. Box 100 Jefferson City, MO 65105-0100
-
In Person: Visit any Missouri license office. Use Missouri DMV Office Locations Guide to find one near you.
For appointment scheduling, see How to Book a Missouri DMV Appointment.
Related Considerations
- Address changes must be reported within 30 days of your move.
- If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL), federal regulations require your address to be up-to-date at all times. Learn more via Renewing a Missouri Commercial License.
- If you’ve also changed your name, that must be reported separately using additional documentation.
Keep a copy of your submitted form and confirmation (if updating online). Failure to update your address can lead to delayed renewals, missed court notices, or lapses in registration.
Missouri drivers should prioritize keeping their records accurate to avoid penalties and ensure seamless access to DOR services.
