REAL ID Compliance

Starting May 7, 2025, a REAL ID or valid U.S. passport will be required for:

  • Boarding domestic flights.
  • Entering federal facilities.

To obtain a REAL ID, applicants must provide proof of identity, Social Security number, residency, and signature. For more details, visit the Illinois REAL ID Requirements.

Digital Driver’s Licenses

Beginning January 1, 2025, Illinois will offer digital driver's licenses accessible via a mobile app. While convenient, drivers must still carry their physical license, as law enforcement may request to see it during traffic stops. Displaying a digital license does not grant permission to search the device without consent.
