Where to Take the Minnesota Driving Test
In Minnesota, the driving skills test is administered by the Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) division of the Department of Public Safety. This behind-the-wheel test evaluates your ability to operate a vehicle safely and obey traffic laws under real-world conditions.

Appointment Requirements
All driving tests require an appointment. You cannot take the test on a walk-in basis. Appointments can be made online through the Minnesota DVS scheduling portal.
Testing appointments fill up quickly, especially during the summer months, so it’s advisable to book several weeks in advance.
Eligibility Before Scheduling
Before you can take the driving test in Minnesota, you must:
- Hold a valid instruction permit for at least six months (if under 18)
- Be at least 16 years old
- Complete the required number of practice hours (50 hours including 15 at night)

What to Bring to the Driving Test
