Updating Your Address on a Kentucky Driver's License
When you move within Kentucky, you are legally required to update your address with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) within 10 days of your move. This helps ensure that you receive important communications about your license, vehicle registration, and any violations.
Methods to Update Your Address
Kentucky offers several convenient ways to change your address on your driver’s license:
Online
You can update your address through the Kentucky Driver Licensing Portal:
- Visit drive.ky.gov
- Log in or create an account
- Select the “Update Address” option
- Enter your new residential address and submit
Note: If you have a REAL ID, your address change must be done in person.
In Person
You can visit any Driver Licensing Regional Office to update your address. Bring the following:
- Current Kentucky driver’s license
- Proof of your new residential address (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement)
- One other form of identification (if needed)
Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled via the Kentucky DMV Appointments page.
By Mail
In some cases, you may request an address change by mail. Contact KYTC directly to confirm eligibility and required documents.
Required Documents
To complete an address update, bring or upload:
- Current driver’s license
- One document showing your new Kentucky address (dated within the past 60 days)
Acceptable proof includes:
- Utility bills
- Bank statements
- Lease or mortgage agreements
- Government-issued documents
