Methods to Change Your Address

Online Address Change

You can change your address online through the NC DMV's official address change service if you have a valid license, your Social Security Number on file, and do not need a new photo. After updating online, you will receive a duplicate license reflecting your new address.

In-Person Address Change

Visit your local DMV office if you need a new photo or prefer to complete the update in person. Bring:

  • Your current North Carolina driver’s license
  • Proof of your new address (utility bill, lease agreement, or similar)
  • Payment for the duplicate license fee (currently $14)

By Mail

You may also update your address by mail using the NC DMV Address Change Form (DL-4). Include a copy of your current license, proof of address, and payment for the duplicate fee. Mail to:

What Happens If You Don’t Update Your Address
